The Architect or Owner requests stamped and sealed drawings. What do we do?

Kitchen consultants and equipment suppliers are not licensed professionals so we do not have a stamp or seal. This has never been a problem for us in past projects because our drawings do not have impact on or reflect issues related life safety, structural or other code issues.

The only exception to this is the Ansul system which does require a signed and sealed drawing. To provide this qualified commercial kitchen fire system installers have a professional engineer on retainer who will stamp and seal the plan and riser diagram for the Ansul system.

There is really nothing on the kitchen plans that should require submitting for permit or building approval. All the MEP related items are already on the Engineer’s drawings which are stamped and sealed. Health Department submittals, which are usually separate from the building department submittals, don't require stamps or seals.

The other option, of course, is to have the architect seal and stamp the drawings. Many architects refuse to do this for non- licensed consultants, but it’s been done on some large projects in the Southeast where stamped drawings were required.
